The effect of an axial external magnetic field (EMF) on the output power of a CuBr–Ne laser under different buffer gas pressures has been studied. Results show that, by applying an EMF, the output power of the laser is increased. The effects of an EMF on the spatial and temporal evolution of the excitation electric field have also been studied by simulation. It is shown that, by applying an EMF, the delay between the excitation electric fields on the tube axis and the tube wall is decreased. This effect results in a decrease in laser pulse duration in a large bore tube diameter.
