The effects of disk radial tilt on the differential time detection (DTD) tracking error signal are calculated and measured. A new radial tilt error detection scheme is proposed, which uses only one focus beam and four detectors namely, A, B, C and D quadrants. Experimental results show that the new method exhibits good linearity with a sensitivity of about 320 mV/degree in a radial tilt range of $-0.5$°–$+0.5$°.
