The magnetic-field-induced Freedericksz transition of liquid crystal doped with a volume fraction of 1.0% of iron(III) porphyrins has been studied. It was observed that 5CB doped with 1% five-coordinated Fe(III)TPPCl [5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinatoiron(III) chloride] dramatically decreased the critical magnetic field, while six-coordinated Fe(III)$o$-PyBPTPPCl[5-$o$(4-(3-pyridyloxyl)butoxy)phenyl-10,15,20-triphenylporphyrinatoiro n(III) chloride] revealed no such effect. Although the two paramagnetic dopants have the same magnetic property, the different results show the different coupling between the host and guest. Using this method, we could further research the coupling between the molecules.
