The concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO) in TiO2 suspensions in the pH range 3–12 were decreased under UV irradiation, although the concentration at pH 1 was unchanged. The decrease in DO concentration was maximized at pH 5. These results suggest that the DO concentration in a solution can be controlled using a TiO2 photocatalyst and UV light. The pH dependence of the DO decrease was explained by considering the DO photoadsorption and the charge on the TiO2 surface.
