The cellular automaton (CA) is promising as a distinctive information processing unit which can be used to solve optimization problems or to process images in a very small circuit with very high speed. In this paper, we clarified a novel application of the rf-superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) for obtaining CA actions, based on numerical simulations. It has been shown that the features of the rf-SQUID, such as non-linear characteristics, latching effect and multiple inputs, are very efficient for implementation of CA. By virtue of these features, basic operations in CA actions such as setting up local transition rules and synchronous update of cell states can be obtained straightforwardly. Furthermore, we discuss the relationship between CA actions in the rf-SQUID network and information processing.
