X-Ray Diffraction and Dielectric Studies on the K2BiNb5O15–K2LaNb5O15 System

Sintered solid solutions in the K2BiNb5O15 (K\underline{BI}N)–K2LaNb5O15 (KLN) system have been synthesized. The K\underline{BI}N–KLN system has continuous solid solutions over the whole range, which have the tungsten bronze type of structure with pseudotetragonal symmetry. The $a$-axis decreases with the increase of La content while the $c$-axis increases. The Miller indices $hkl$ of K\underline{BI}N in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern have been assigned, and the lattice parameters are $a{\approx}b{=}17.8676$ Å and $c{=}7.8451$ Å. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant has been observed. The curve of dielectric constant displays a very diffuse maximum at a temperature which corresponds to the ferroelectric transition temperature ($T_{\text{c}}$). The $T_{\text{c}}$ varies from 372°C (K\underline{BI}N) to a temperature lower than 0°C (KLN) with the increase of La content.
