Dynamical lasing wavelength variation in polarization bistable switching of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) by orthogonally polarized light injection was measured by heterodyne detection. We obtained two different beat signal spectra between the VCSEL output and the injection light: a lasing wavelength shift caused by light injection and lasing wavelength locking to the injection light due to injection locking. Direct observation of these two cases in polarization bistable switching was achieved by an optical spectrogram in single-shot measurements.
