Wavelength tunable Bragg grating filters were fabricated on a silica based optical waveguide and their tuning characteristics were measured. The silica optical waveguide was deposited by flame hydrolysis deposition. The grating’s pattern was fabricated by a Lloyd’s interferometer using an Ar+ laser. The grating pattern was transferred to a waveguide core by reactive ion etching. The etch depth was controlled for a proper coupling coefficient. After the formation of a waveguide stripe, polymer overcladding was coated to planarize the surface. The spectral and tuning characteristics of the fabricated grating filters were measured. The reflection center wavelength was tuned to over 6.2 nm while temperature changed from 0 to 70 °C.
