A novel method to separate oxygen by utilizing a gradient magnetic field was experimentally studied. The degree of oxygen separation depends on the macroscopic velocity of flow of gas crossing the gradient magnetic field. Both too high and too low macroscopic velocity of flow resulted in a low increment of oxygen concentration. This phenomenon can be explained by taking account of the balance between the inertia force and the magnetizing force. The experimental results suggest the possibility of using a gradient magnetic field for continually separating oxygen from air. It was discussed that the separation effect might be better if extending the length of the gradient magnetic field.
