Using infrared dichroism technique and wedge cell, we have investigated the surface order of nematic liquid crystal at the polymer alignment surface. The results show that the order parameter at surface is much lower than that of bulk, and a light biaxiality exists at the interface between a liquid crystal and the alignment layer. The distribution of both order parameter and biaxiality parameter over the liquid crystal layer follows an exponent function.
