The image resolution of a conventional ultrahigh-resolution endoscope is limited to 20–30 lp/mm. In this study, magnified and 64 lp/mm high-resolution images are obtained using a new optical design with a 0.23 pitch gradient index lens and a high-resolution fiber-optic image guide. The resolution and magnification of the obtained images are measured and analyzed. Also, the MTFs of images from a new magnifying endoscope are measured. A new type of high-resolution magnifying endoscope which can be developed based on this research, can take an image of less than 10 μm resolution in the human body.
