It is estimated that approximately 50% of a data center's total energy requirement is dedicated for cooling. Therefore, reducing a data center's cooling system power consumption would actually result in a significant reduction in overall power consumption. In this paper, more detailed models and design considerations for a heat pipe based ice storage system for data center cooling are presented. A variation of this configuration, as well as a combination of the existing and proposed methods are also presented. Finally some cost comparisons and considerations are also presented.
