本研究の目的は，ミレニアム開発目標に関わる重要度に焦点をあてて，生物多様性保全に関する環境意識の決定要因を明らかにすることである。個人の環境意識がどのような要因により規定されているのかを明確にすることで，より効率的に生物多様性保全政策が進む可能性がある。分析には，日本全国にて行ったサーベイより得られた環境意識指標，経済指標，社会・人口統計上の指標および性格指標を用いる。本研究で得た推計結果より，経済指標である所得，失業，社会・人口統計上の指標である年齢，性別，結婚，健康，衝撃的出来事の経験度，主観的幸福度，性格指標である時間割引率，危険回避度，利他性が，環境意識に対し影響を有していることが示唆された。
