Challenging driving situations, such as merge lanes and lane changes, are often a source of traffic jams and accidents. In this paper, a traffic flow improvement strategy is investigated using an autonomous control logic inspired by fish schooling. Fish demonstrates extraordinary "anti-collision" abilities, navigating instinctively and intelligently through challenging terrain by detecting and avoiding obstacles without colliding with each other. With the proposed control logic, it is possible to improve the traffic flow of vehicles by actively adapting their behavior to surrounding vehicles as well as the environment.
