In order to reduce NOx emissions in a DI diesel engine, we pursued the measurement and calculation method of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) rate under the internal EGR. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. (1)The internal EGR rate was estimated by the measurement and calculation of oxygen concentration in the intake port. (2)The EGR rate partially did not correspond in comparison with NOx reduction rate because of the heterogeneous mixture of air and EGR gas in the intake port. (3)This was proved by the calculation under CFD and measurement of gas temperature in the intake port.
