The effect of S-abscisic acid (S-ABA) application on soybean grain yield in response to water stress was evaluated. The results indicated that the application of 2 ppm S-ABA by foliar spray at reproductive stages resulted in the increase of soybean grain yield, grain number and pod number under optimum and mild water stress conditions, while under severe water stress conditions, the application of S-ABA was not effective to increase soybean grain yield. The application of S-ABA also increased the water use efficiency (WUE) of soybean plants. A positive correlation of soybean grain yield with WUE (r=0.920<SUP>**</SUP>) and net photosynthesis (r=0.940<SUP>**</SUP>) as affected by S-ABA application under different water stress conditions was observed.
