Single unit recording from the ventral division of the cochlear nucleus in anesthetized guinea pigs were performed for the measurement of the hearing thresholds. PST histograms of neurons in response to various frequencies and intensities of pure tones were taken, and their characteristic frequencies were determined. Most of them showed a primary-like pattern. Sixty two percent of them showed high spontaneous discharge rates. The audiogram which was constructed by plotting the thresholds of the neurons at their characteristic frequencies, was similar to that derived by behavior measurements. We concluded that this method was useful for determining hearing thresholds of guinea pigs.
