Membrane potential and spike discharge were obtained from 42 auditory neurons in the dorsal cochlear nucleus of anesthetized cats. EPSP of the pauser and build-up type neurons generated from probe tone were independent under short-term conditioning stimuli but spike discharges changed nonmonotonously. In the 2 unuts out of them depolarization were obtainable without spike discharge under these stimulus conditions. Responses of another 2 units to pure tone bursts were only hyperpolarization. In the latter units they were depolarization during 20 to 40 ms interval but when it was 80 to 320 ms interval membrane potential showed a change to hyperpolarization.
