Seventeen temporal bones with inner ear anomalies, five of which has significant endolymphatic hydrops, were investigated on serial horizontal sections for the structural anatomy of the vestibular aqueduct (VA) and the paravestibular canaliculus (PVC). The results were as follows: 1) Various configurations of the VA ranged from a balloon-like form to a narrow-tube like form. All were essentially hypoplastic. 2) Significant endolymphatic hydrops showed hypoplastic rugose portion (RP) of the endolymphatic sac (ES), characterized by underdeveloped rugosity and lesser amount of perisacular connective tissues and blood vessels. 3) PVC was consistently present in all temporal bones studied although its course varied considerably.
