Effects of Isoniazid upon Experimental Tuberculosis with Streptomycin Resistant Tubercle Bacilli in Mice

14 male mice were injected with a strain of human type tubercle bacilli that were resistant to streptomycin. They were divided into 2 groups, each group consisted of 7 animals. Group-1: control group. Group-2: those subcutaneously injected with daily 40mg/kg of isoniazid. The treatment started 24 hours after the injection and continued for 6 weeks, At the end of the experiment, all the survivors were autopsied.Severe destructive tuberculous lesions were seen in the control animals, while marked contrast was the regression of active lesions in the isoniazid treatment ones, as determined by macroscopic, microscopic, and bacteriolgical examinations.It is concluded that, by the method used in our experiment, isoniazid favourably effects the healing process of the progressive tuberculosis of mice caused by human type tubercle bacilli resistant against streptomycin.
