Tubercle bacillus phospholipid sensitized kaolin reaction (Takahashi's reaction) was carried out in a total number of 271 inpatients of Chubu-Byoin National Sanatorium, 263 being pulmonary tuberculosis and 8 nontuberculous chest diseases. Statistical analysis of the results gave the following conclusions:1) Takahashi's reaction was most intimately related to the state of bacillus discharge. That is, it was positive in a higher percentage of patients showing more bacillus discharge.2) The reaction was intimately connected with acceleration of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate.3) The reaction was significantly correlated with extension of radiologically diseased area. However, no clear relation was confirmed to Gakken's classification of pulmonary tuberculosis.4) The reaction was intimately related to the CRP positive rate.5) The reaction had some relationship with tuberculin test.6) The reaction was not influenced by the age of patients.7) The reaction had no relation to S-GOT and S-GPT.8) The reaction was rarely positive in patients with such nontubercle diseases as spontaneous pneumothorax pulmonary purulence, pulmonary tumors, etc.The above findings suggest that Takahashi's reaction may be a valuable test for judging the activity of pulmonary tuberculosis and discriminating it from nontubercle chest diseases.
