Clinical Study on the Non-barbiturate Intravenous Anesthetic "Epontol"

Epontol was applied to the minor operations in our outpatient clinic and following experiences were obtained. Induction time for sleep is rapid and hours of sleep varies from three to seven minutes. Slight hypotension and tachypnea were often noticed immediately after the injection.Epontol is especially a suitable anestheic for oral surgery, because it removes the stiffness of lower jaw. Patients did not complain of any unpleasantness during the induction and also during the awakening time. Involuntary movements in the sleep, slight nausea after sleep and loss of appetite were noticed in some patients.We had one case of dyspnea which seemed to be caused by laryngospasm.
