The results of the pulmonary tuberculosis patients of over 50 years old, who have been operated 6 months or more before, were studied. They are 124 cases of thoracoplasty, 29 cases of pneumonektomy, and 7 cases of plombage. There were no deseased nor particular complications from these operations. The bacillus negativity in thoracoplasty was 79.2%.From the above results were came to the following conclusions.1) The limit of the operation cannot be easily decided, but, according to our surgical cases in which we included all possible complications, we were able to operate safely up to the age of 69 years old. If the indication is better to use surgical therapy even in old age.2) Considering the influence of the operation, we believe that in the old aged patient thoracoplasty should be better than pneumonektomy. Also, considering the decline of the lung functions because of the age, it is necessary to use methods to prevent postoperative paradox breathings.3) When operating the old aged patient, it is especially necessary to give priority to their social indication.4) Patients over 60 years old should not be operated on when the bacillus is negative, even when there is a cavity.
