For the risk assessment induced by TiO2 photocatalytic particles, we have developed a novel particle analysis method combined with a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer and an individual particle XAFS analysis using a synchrotron radiation. XAFS spectra from a particle of both rutile and anatase TiO2 show that the identification of both structures can be performed by the individual particle XAFS. From the XAFS measurements of commercial TiO2 photocatalytic particles, we determined the crystal structure of these TiO2 particles and performed the risk assessment.
