Phospholipase A activity in bovine and human seminal plasma and its re-lationship with semen properties were investigated. The enzyme activity in seminal plasma was detected in all of 19 bulls (100.0%), and 27 of 50 men (54.0%). It was also detected in 2 of 4 azoospermia patients and all of 3 vasectomized men. There were no significant correlations between the seminal enzyme activity and semen volume, sperm concentration and semen pH in both species. However, significant correlation was found between the enzyme activity and percentage of motile sperm in human (r=0.436, P<0.05). These findings suggest that the enzyme activity is not clearly related with these semen properties.<BR>
