Morphological observations were carried out on tubal eggs, obtained about 12 hours after ovula-tion, in 30-day-old golden hamsters treated with 10 or 90 iu of PMS. The results were as follows.
1) Of the 176 eggs obtained from the ten animals treated with 10 IU of PMS, there were 166 normal pronuclear eggs (94.3%), 1 polyspermic egg (0. 6%), 4 unfertilized eggs (2.3%), 3 par-thenogenetic eggs (1.7%) and 2 atretic eggs (1.1%).
2) Of the 965 eggs obtained from the ten animals treated with 90 iu of PMS, there were 744 normal pronuclear eggs (77.1%), 51 pronuclear eggs with supplementary sperm (5.3%), 3 polyspecmic eggs (0.3%), 18 androgenetic or gynogenetic eggs (1.9%), 89 unfertilized eggs (9.2%), 18 parthenoge-netic eggs (1.9%) and 42 atretic eggs (4.4%); some of the last four kinds of eggs had some sperm in their perivitelline spaces.
From these results, it is concluded that the frequency of the eggs taking abnormal course of fertilization may increase when the animals were treated with a large dose of PMS.
