Turkey semen, diluted with 7% glucose egg-yolk solution and quickly frozed with liquid nitrogen was stored at-196°C for the periods of 70 to 440 days. The motility of the spermatozoa and the percentage occurrence of abnormal spermatozoa chiefly the neck-bending spermatozoa in the thawed semen were studied in relation to the lengths of storing period.
The following results were obtained.
1. The percentage of motile spermatozoa (over ?? ) in the semen thawed after the different storing periods of 70, 104, 122, 226 (a, b), 367, 411 and 440 days was 73.8% on the average, ranging from 50 to 90%, and it did not appear that the spermatozoa motility was adversely affected by the long-term preservation.
2. In the same thawed semen as above, the percentage of neck-bending spermatozoa averaged 17.1%, ranging between 14.4 and 21.1%. There was not observed a tendency that this percentage increased with the length of storing period.
