Copra mannan, 77.6g (equivalent to 60.0g based on polymannose) was hydrolyzed at 40°C for 12 hr with the β-mannanase system (crude enzyme solution) of <I>Streptomyces</I> sp. No.17. The sugar distribution in the resultant hydrolyzate was β-1, 4-mannobiose 71%, mannose 12%, β-1, 4-mannotriose 9% and other unidentified oligosaccharides 8%. The mannobiose in the hydrolyzate was separated by carbon column chromatography, and 33.9g of mannobiose was obtained as crystalline state from aqueous ethanol (yield ; 56.5% based on polymannose) .
