Practical value of cytology in the field of gynecology for the diagnosis of malignant lesions of female genital organs has been accepted in modern medicine. In this country, however, the cytodiagnosis is not yet widely used in practice except in large medical centers, probably because of socioeconomical conditions, or shortness of cytotechnologists.
In our laboratory an effort has been made to improve an efficincy of cytodiagnosis which is stated in this paper.
The cytological specimens are taken by a swabbing method, smeared on glass slides as usual fashion. The specimen is fixed in ether-ethanol mixture. One half cycle of an automatic staining machine (Sakura, Seiki, Co.) is applied for routine staining process. And a set of two slides are stained with hematoxylin eosin and toluidine blue.
For efficient processing of reporting sheets, a set of slips consisted of two identical pages with clinical data and report are prepared with a carbon sheet. The second page has perforations for statistical punch. The first page is sent back to the physician, and the second is filed and used for statistics later.
By the use of this processing the efficiency of our laboratory was improved by at least double.
