Between January 1978 and August 1985, Transrectal Aspiration Cytology was executed for 328 cases.
According to Papanicolaou Classification, 256 cases were in Class I·II, 24 cases were in Class III, and 48 cases were in Class IV·V. Out of 328 cases, 95 cases were effective for Histology as well as Cytology and could be compared. Out of 41 cases which were given as Class I·II via Cytological Diagnosis, 36 cases were Hyperplasia, whereas, 5 cases were Cancers (false negative ratio: 10%). Out of 12 cases classifi ed as Class III, 6 cases were Hyperplasia, and 6 cases were Cancers. There were 42 cases for Class IV·V, 4 cases for Hyperplasia (false positive ratio: 9%), and 38 cases for Cancer.
When Prostate Cancer Cells were classified from the view of Cytological Atypia, as Grade 1 for Mild Atypia Adenocarcinoma, Grade 2 for Moderately Atypia Adenocarcinoma and Grade 3 for High Atypia Adenocarcinoma, and compared with Histologic Differentiation, then 76% concurred.
In Histological well differentiated Adenocarcinoma, Atypia of Cancer Cell was mild and many cases were difficult for Dicrisis with Hyperplasia Cell, so, we investigated 13 items for checking and tried the Diacrisis of the two.
In addition, in cases for false positive and false negative, we examined Cytological finding where Differentiation fails with Retrospective.
