Two cases of Letterer-Siwe disease were studied cytologically. Case 1, a one year male suffered from papular skin rash with hemorrhage. Cytology on the smears from the skin surface showed differentiated histiocytic cells with abundant cytoplasm and indented nuclei. Case 2, a one year and 5 months female was noticed cervical lymphadenopathy, yellowish cutaneous rash and multiple osteolytic lesions. The smears from cut surface of skin biopsy showed also histiocytic cells with indented nuclei. Such histiocytic cells with indented nuclei were characteristically found in cases of Letterer-Siwe disease, not in cases of reactive histiocytosis. Therefore, histiocytic cell with indented nuclei is a useful cytologic aspect for diagnosis of Letterer-Siwe disease.
