A case of proliferating angioendotheliomatosis occurring in a 32-year-old Japanese woman was reported. Cytologically many round cells along with scattered small lymphocytes and histiocytes were observed in touched smear specimen. The tumor cells had indented nucleus with coarsely distributed granular chromatin. Nucleoli were prominent. They resembled the malignant lymphoma cells and the differential diagnosis between the two could not be easily made in conventional cytologic specimens. No atypical cells were observed in peripheral blood smear. Immunohistochemical analyses were performed to characterize the nature of this rare malignancy. The presence of Facter WI indicated that this tumor was originated from endothelial cell. The HLA-DR antigen preferentially expressed on B lymphocyte was markedly detected in this tumor whereas leukocyte common antigen (LCA) and IgM as definitive lymphocyte markers were not.
