Four types of wire-cut electromachining with a reciprocating wire electrode are studied and their machining characteristics are found out experimentally. Owing to the restricted electric current which can be fed in the working area through a fine wire, the higher voltage machining is more rational to feed much working energy. From this point of view the electrodischarge wire cutting is preferred to the other methods which use electrochemical reaction.Electrochemical wire cutting does not bring about a good result when the electrolyte flow is slow. Electrolytic wire sawing with free abrasives has a rather good performance and it may be used in the multisawing of hard metals.Electrodischarge machining with sodium silicate water solution makes a fine cut and yet a removal rate is lower because of the low working current.
