The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect to increase the point of scale in tenderness test in patients with TMD. One hundred and sixty eight patients visited our clinic and treated mainly with behavioral modalities were analyzed in this study. Palpation score summation were compared at the time of before treatment and after symptoms stabilized. Measurement were made for 68 sites (36 bilateral and 4 in the center). Six point scale were used in the original measurement. Those data were converted into 2 point and 4 point scales. In the reduction rate of the tenderness score summation, reduction rate significantly increases as increase of points. Correlation coefficient between point of scales was very high if data obtained from the same measurement. Correlation coefficient between before and after stabilized were around r=0.527 to r=6.00. There found no significant effect in increase of point of scales.
