We report two cases of cervical polyp that contained squamous cell carcinoma. The first patient, a 61-year-old woman, was referred to our department because of an abnormality found in a routine cervical smear. A repeat smear test carried out at our outpatient clinic revealed class IV findings. The patient underwent polypectomy after discovery of a cervical polyp 5mm in diameter. Histological examination of the polyp demonstrated microinvasive squamous cell carcinoma. The second patient was a37-yearold woman who also showed an abnormal cervical smear upon routine screening for cancer. A repeat smear test at our department revealed class III a. Polypectomy was performed for a cervical polyp 6mm in diameter showing white epithelium on its surface. Histologically, carcinoma in situ was observed. Although most cervical polyps are benign, they can occasionally be malignant. Therefore, all cervical polyps should be removed promptly and be subject to thorough histological examination.
