Sanitary Treatment of Clothes:The Anti-bacterial and Anti-fungal Activities of Sanitized Socks and Underclothes on the Market

1. Twenty-nine samples (about 50%) out of sixty sanitized socks were found anti-bacterial against <I>St. aureus</I> 209 and eighteen samples (30%) anti-fungal against <I>Tri. mentagrophytes</I>.<BR>Permachem sanitized socks had generally weak anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities, and socks sanitized by "Sanitaizu" had stronger activities.<BR>The former was ineffective against <I>Esch. coli</I> and <I>Pr. vulgaris</I> and the latter a little more effective.<BR>The sanitized underwear was found less anti-bacterial and anti-f ungal.<BR>2. The elastic parts of the socks had weak anti-bacterial activity, but other parts had almost equal anti-bacterial activity.<BR>3. After washing, fairly high anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities were still observed with the socks sanitized by "Sanitaizu".
