In the previous study, multidimensional scaling was applied to the 60×60 proximity matrix of the clothing trait words and revealed three dimensions, which were interpreted as "loud vs. subdued, " "casual vs. formal" and "decent vs. unrefined." In the present study, to examine the validity of the dimension labels, the mean scores of the 60 trait words rated according to how each of the words was related to each of the dimension labels were employed in multiple regression to locate the label axes in the 3-dimensional configuration space.
The projections of the label axes were almost collinear with the dimensional axes corresponded to each of the labels. This indicated that the labels of "loud vs. subdued, " "casual vs. formal" and "decent vs. unrefined" could be assigned to the 1-, 2-and 3-dimension, respectively. In addition, these label axes were not orthogonal; the directions of "loud, " "casual" and "unrefined" of the label axes lay relatively close together in the space. The non orthogonality seems to be suitable to evaluative dimensions of dress trait.
