Distribution of Strontium-90 and Cesium-137 Concentration in Bull

In order to elucidate the contamination of animal products due to the nuclear tests and to know the distribution of Cs-137 in soft tissues of bulls, K and Cs-137 were measured in organs and muscles of 18 month old bulls under normal feeding conditions.<BR>These organs and muscles were rumen, intestine, liver, kidney, pancreas, lung, heart etc., and 6 kinds of muscles of best quality for food.<BR>Ca and Sr-90 contents in some of the organs were also assayed.<BR>As the result, Sr-90 was detected only in the rumen, kidney and large intestine. On the contrary, Cs-137 was detected in amounts from 2 to 15 CU in all of the organs and muscles, although there was no definite pattern of distribution of Cs-137 in the tissues.
