Verification of the Specificity for the JSCC Proposed Reference Method and Other Methods for Serum Cholinesterase Activity Measurement (1st Report)

Using tetraisopropyl pyrophosphoramide, which is known as a non-competitive inhibitor of serum cholinesterase (CHE), the existence of residual activity after CHE activity inhibition was examined by the draft of the Japan Society for Clinical Chemistry (JSCC) reference method and other representative methods. Residual activity was observed with the JSCC proposed method in which 2, 3-dimethoxybenzoylthiocholine iodide was adopted as the substrate and European Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards reference method. On the other hand, no residual activity was observed with the benzoylthiocholine iodide-2, 2'-dipyridildisulfidemethod, p-hydroxybenzoylcholine iodide method or the butyrylthiocholine iodide-5, 5'-dithiobis (2-nitrobenzoate) method. The residual activity was related to the concentration of human serum albumin.
