This study was undertaken to evaluate a long term biological changes and function of the implanted reinforced biosynthetic ovine collagen vascular prostheses. In the mongrel dogs, 14 Omniflow grafts(6mm internal diameter, 6-8cm in length) were used in aortic replacement (12 grafts) and single aorto-iliac bypass (2 grafts). A total of 14 grafts were implanted with 5 examined at over 1 year and all were patent during observation period. There was a less pannus ingrowth from the adjacent host arteries about 5mm into the graft across each anastomosis. None of the grafts showed aneurysmal dilatation. On histopathological study, there was less inflammatory reactions with fewer cellular infiltrations in the peri-graft host tissue. These results indicated that this graft has an excellent histocompatibility even though the antithrombogenicity was less satisfactory.
