This report is about the support activities executed in our welfare institutions for children with intellectual disability who have difficulty in eating. The eating problem of such children is recognized as part of the whole problem of their development, and this problem is approached by giving them guidance and advice on eating, referred to as "Eating Therapy". To do the assessment and the guidance on eating, the factors for the acquisition of eating ability of the children with intellectual disability were clarified. Children with Down's syndrome and autism were the main focus. Feature of their eating were described and observation made. Countermeasures for their eating problem were indicated from the following aspects: (1) posture, (2) sense around the mouth and oral cavity, (3) adjustment of food form to raise eating function, (4) unassisted eating, (5) variety of foods, (6) health care. In giving the "Eating Therapy", the importance of cherishing their sense of self-accomplishment and avoiding wrong learning in order to support their development and their family is advocated.
