A small ampoule containing a very small amount of gas sample is introduced into the small sample reservoir of the panoramic mass spectrometer described in our preceeding paper. At the moment when the ampoule is broken, the rapid scan is started and a series of rapidly decreasing peaks on the cathode ray tube are photographed in rapid succession, say, every one second. This dynamic operation will minimize undesirable effects due to adsorption and desorption on the part of the analyser tube and the cumulative change caused by the filament which are unavoidable in the static operation. The present method has been cursorily to our satisfaction with neon samples about 10-6ml NTP.
