The vegetation recovery at a landslide scar was examined in the Tashiro area, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The hillside revegetation on landslide scar was conducted with <I>Robinia pseudo-acacia</I> in 1970. Four belt-transects were established from the upper part to the lower part of the slope, which also included natural vegeta-tion areas. The stratum structure, the density of <I>R. pseudo-acacia</I> and other tree species, and the spatial distribu-tions of tree species were investigated. <I>R. pseudo-acacia</I> composed tree layer, and the other invading species were found to occur in the lower layer. In the belt-transects, the density of trees ranged from 0.11 trees/m2 to 0.32trees/m2 and the numbers of invading tree ranged from 7 to 15 species. The basal area of DBH ranged from 25.9cm2/m2 to 51.9 cm2/m2. At lowest transect, trees density was highest and the number of species was also largest. When compared to the planted area, the tree density was high in natural vegetated areas. In addition, the numberof species in natural vegetated areas was large. Grain sizes of the surface soil and spatial distributions of tree species varied in the hillslope. This study suggested the effects of sediment movement on the vegetation recovery.
