We classify serial supplements into three types: those attached to volumes, those attached to issues, and those which are independent, then subdivide them into more detailed types from the viewpoint of serial-binding, giving as examples serials held in the Medical Library at the University of Tokyo. The Library has automated its procedures for controlling serials, one of which is serial-binding. We introduce the system in relation to the types of supplement mentioned above and reveal several improvements which we are planning to add to the system.
