• In the 1985 MEDLINE file there are no major changes of medical periodicals to be indexed, the indexing policy and MeSH being the same as in previous years. Author English abstracts in the file, however, have increased from 41.8% (FY 1980) to 52.5% (FY 1983). The 1985 MeSH has also been improved with the addition of 122 new descriptors and 13, 193 annotations of 14, 123 MeSH descriptors while some have been deleted, replaced or rearranged to give a better format. The range of article selection has been expanded to include all articles written by employees of the United States Public Health Service (PHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or articles supported by these organizations. There are no subheading changes in the 1985 MeSH. A total of 262 terms, new and synonymous descriptors are translated into the Japanese language with annotations for Japanese users.
