• There are no major changes of biomedical periodicals to be Indexed, the indexing policy and MeSH of the 1986 MEDLINE file being the same as in previous years. However, the 297 candidate journals for Index Medicus were reviewed and of these, 57 were accepted for indexing In FY 1985. The number of 1986 MeSH descriptors is 14, 092, including 147 new descriptors as a result examining the entire 14, 123 descriptors of 1985 MeSH. No new subheadings were added this year, so the total number of these remains the same, 70. The 147 new MeSH descriptors were translated and annotated into the Japanese language by the present author for MEDLINE users in Japan.
