A users' manual for Kawatetsu Hospital Library has been provided so that people can use the hospital library while the librarian is not in attendance. The library is open 24 hours a day, but there is only one librarian. The manual is simple and easy to understand. Users can readily understand how to use the library and are able to search for the literature they need when no staff member is present. The manual includes photographs. Most library users' manuals are comprehensive and includes detailed notes. This manual assumes a question-and-answer format; questions in the table of contents are followed by the page number of the answers. By turning the pages, one finds different questions and answers. Therefore it is not necessary for users to read the entire manual; they can find the answer to a specific question quickly and easily. This paper also includes an evaluation of the manual.
