Computerization of the library work at Saiseikai Shimonoseki General Hospital Library using the personal computer database software "dBASE III PLUS" is near completion and consists of (1) periodical processing, (2) book control, (3) interlibrary loan procedures and (4) journal binding procedures. In addition, three sub-systems were inserted to facilitate the ordinary program. In periodical processing, the new system controls the journals published the following year to create a next-year-database as well as controlling those published the previous year. Secondly, the book searching programs have been greatly improved with respect to searching and checking book data. Lastly, we have begun combining the periodical data and book data, and it is now possible to simply calculate them, form them and print out a monthly library report utilizing the computer software "Multiplan."
