The authorship of articles appearing in Igaku Toshokan during the 7-year period between Volume 34, 1987, and Volume 40, 1993, was analyzed quantitatively. The number of articles doubled in one year from 71 in Volume 37 to 145 in Volume 38. The number of authors also doubled during the same year, from 83 in Volume 37 to 155 in Volume 38. The locations of the affiliations of the authors of articles published in the journal were found to have become increasingly widely distributed throughout the nation during the three years from 1990 to 1993. No articles were submitted from 11 libraries during the 7-year period (1987-1993). One article each was submitted from 14 libraries and 2 each from 15 libraries. Thus, only a small number of articles were submitted from some libraries. This journal seems to have been functioning more effectively in promoting communication among medical librarians during the three-year period from 1990 to 1993.
