The experiment was conducted to determine the effects of combination of gamma irradiation and the treatments of some protective substances and plant growth substances. The protective substances are glutathione, cysteine, 5-hydroxytryptophane, seretonine, cysteamine, and sodium ascorbate. Plant growth substances are GA3 and IAA. The inhibitory effects of gamma radiation on the germination of potato tubers, radish seeds, and tomato seeds were reduced with high concentration treatment of GA3 (Table 2 and 4, Fig. 1, 3, 4, and 5). Sodium ascorbate treatment slightly reduced the inhibitory effects on the germination (Table 1). These results would explain a part of the decreasing cause of inhibitory effects of gamma radiation on the germination (or sprouting) of seeds (or storage organs) at certain stage of storage.
